Dynamic team assignment upon matter creation based on region, department, entity, a custom field, or a combination of these factors.

Trigger

Action(s)
How it works
1
Workflow is triggered when a matter record is created in LawVu.
2
Retrieve information about the matter record.
3
Use a switch in Power Platform to branch your workflow depending on the factor which inputs into the team assignment eg region and matter type. This may involve multiple nested switches. For example, at the top level, you might branch by matter type, and within each branch, further differentiate based on specific characteristics - each leading the automation down a different path.
4
In each branch, update matter field, selecting the team as the field, and set the team based on the branch of the switch. If more than one team needs to have access automatically, then you will need to create a combination team in LawVu for which the access is inherited by each of the constituent teams in the combination.
5
(Optional) Add a status message to the LawVu matter record to confirm that the automation has assigned the team based on the factors e.g. region and matter type.
Getting started
This workflow assigns a team to all new matter records immediately after they are created.
Many organizations want to partition matter visibility by region so that only lawyers in a given region have access to local matters. Matter types alone are insufficient, as the division is based not on the type of work but on location. Without automation, you would need to create an artificially large number of matter types—repeating them across each region, entity, or other relevant factor used to partition the work. Alternatively, you would have to manually reassign matters after creation, which introduces the risk of human error. Even the process of reassigning the team could potentially violate internal rules about who is permitted to view certain matters.
